Season Preview with Head Coach Jacob Derby

We sat down with Professional Head Coach, Jacob Derby, to talk about the upcoming winter season.

Interviewer: City is starting their 3rd winter season in a Brand new league with some historically talented teams. How do you feel City will stack up this year?

JAcob Derby: In the summer season, under the national league, we beat some really good teams and then lost some close ones we feel like we should have won. We did have some injuries and missing our starting keeper (Danny Buegar) was really tough. We will be returning all of our players from the National League season and will be bringing on a couple other guys that we think could contribute some major minutes and maybe even start. We will be ready

Interviewer: in the past two seasons, Jeremy Klepal has racked up over 40 goals and Aldony Mendez over 25 goals. you have relied on their individual ability to create chances and score. aRe you concerned at all about the balance of your attack?

Jacob Derby: I think over the past couple seasons we have grown as a team. in that growth we have relied on those two guys to keep the ball and generate a majority of our attack. As we continue to progress, we are building a system of players that can support the type of rotation that we want to see. That type of rotation does rely heavily on klepal and mendez but thats okay.

Interviewer: you goalkeeper, Danny Buegar, missed most of last season but will be back this winter. How does danny affect your team on and off the court?

Jacob Derby: Danny brings an energy to the team that we missed last season. his talent on the court is of course fantastic and his positive attitude and character set a good standard for our squad.

Interviewer: While all the teams have not been announced yet. The rumor is that Grand Rapids ABK, AnN Arbor Mudpuppies, and FC Tryzub will all be in the league. What are your thoughts on these teams?

Jacob Derby: You all know how I feel about ABK. that should go without saying. The mudpuppies we split 1-1 last year with a stellar game against them at home and poor showing away. Their style is quite different then ours and should be a interesting match up this year. Both of those games last year were physical contests that produced a lot of goals. I am expecting the same this year. AS for FC tryzub, we have not played them yet. The scouting report given to us is that they are a physical team with a ton of technique. That is one I am looking forward too.

City will be starting their team camp in November with exhibition games starting shortly after. The regular season will open the first week of January! GO CITY!
