He is Definitely A Keeper

Making Big Saves

Danny Buegar has exploded on to the Futsal scene this summer with his acrobatic style and astonishing quick reactions. Buegar is a talented 23 year old from Monrovia, Liberia who came to the United States in 2011. Buegar joined Lansing City in the late summer of 2016 and had quite a job of adjusting to the game of Futsal.

The speed and movement was very difficult to adjust too. The player's movement is very different from outdoor and that is what I was used to. I really had to change my approach and push myself to move differently in the game.

Early Starts

Buegar had some early starts as a goalkeeper for the City reserve squad and quickly caught people's eye. His acrobatic style made him an instant standout on the court.

The Chance

When City's starting goalkeeper, Jacob Derby, accepted the head coaching job for City's Pro side, the search for a replacement started immediately. The first one on coach Derby's depth chart was in fact Buegar.

Derby commented, "We had a couple options from players from down south and from the east coast but I decided to stick with Danny and not sign any new keepers. First off, Danny is a just a really good guy. I mean off the court he is the guy you want to be around. On the court he makes saves that no one else can. He has so much raw talent, and I knew that we could easily develop him. "

ON JUNE 23RD, DANNY GOT HIS FIRST HOME START FOR LANSING CITY.

"It is a very intense environment, Buegar said. I definitely had the nervous bug when I suited up for the game against Maryland. But when I ran out on to the court and looked around to see all the fans screaming and cheering it seemed like I just got a boost. I mean it is a dream come true playing in that kind of atmosphere. It is something that you don't take for granted, I mean this is what you dream about as a kid."

The game turned out to be a wild one. Both teams were fighting back and forth the whole game. There were red cards, finger tip saves, and highlight reel goals! The pressure was on Buegar to perform and boy did he ever!

"My favorite moment of the game against Maryland was saving a counter that Maryland had, Buegar said. It was a 2 vs 1 counter against us and I was able to block the first shot and then managed to get back up and block the second shot. I just remember the fans going nuts and thinking, this is just awesome!"

Buegar was a key factor in City defeating Sporting Maryland that day and giving Sporting their first loss of the season.
